Conventions of a Romantic Comedy
Romantic Comedy's, sometimes called Rom Coms, are classified as "chick flicks". This is because they are supposed to appeal to a majority female audience.
It can be seen as a hybrid film as many of its conventions do cross over with a comedy film.
These films are usually light hearted, humorous films focused on the idea of romance. The plot is usually centered around two characters, a man and a women. Usually, they part ways because of an obstical of some sort and ultimately, they reunite and fall in love by the end of the film.
One of the biggest codes in Romantic Comedy's is the screenwriters have to make it obvious that the two protagonists are meant to be together. This allows the audience to want to carry on watching to see if they will actually get together and root for the characters.
